Located on Bratislava’s castle hill, St. Nicholas Church boasts a rich history dating back to the 11th century, with remnants of a rotunda discovered beneath the current structure. Rebuilt in 1661 by Countess Frances Khuen, this early Baroque church honors Saint Nicholas, patron of sailors, and features a statue above its entrance. Throughout its history, it served various denominations—Catholic, Greek Catholic, and now Orthodox—and underwent renovations including the addition of a crypt. Though damaged by fire and vandalism, and threatened by nearby demolitions, it remains a protected cultural monument offering a glimpse into Bratislava’s past. Wikipedia
